Project Overview

Chandigarh’s Police Command and Control Centre supports citywide surveillance and traffic enforcement from the ICCC complex in Sector 17. The system connects more than 1000 cameras across around 285 locations and integrates ITMS functions including red light violation detection, overspeed monitoring, ANPR, adaptive traffic control, public messaging and real time incident response.

Project Requirement

The client required a command environment capable of supporting continuous city surveillance and traffic related monitoring, with clear operator to screen relationships, strong supervisor visibility and disciplined movement within the room. The requirement was to position consoles in a manner that enabled operators to view primary and secondary screens at the required frequency without excessive neck rotation, visual fatigue or operational distraction.

Scope & Services Provided

Architectural, fit out and ergonomic design consultancy in line with ISO 11064, including control room layout planning, console positioning logic, circulation planning, viewing angle assessment, lighting and dimming strategy, interior material recommendations and acoustic environment design support.

Benefits of the Services Provided

The design intent was to support operator health and sustained performance by minimizing awkward posture, musculoskeletal strain, glare and unnecessary movement. Low VOC material selection, improved speech clarity and lux level definition for different operating modes helped create a healthier, safer and more controlled working environment.

What Was Achieved

A control room that was functionally organized, visually balanced, ergonomically aligned and suitable for 24×7 monitoring operations, while also delivering a professional and aesthetically refined operational setting.
